FIRST Sponsorship: Team 2751

This year Sealevel is partnering with our local FIRST robotics team as they prepare for competitions. The students come from four area high schools: D.W. Daniel High, Easley High, Liberty High, and Pickens High. As team mentors, Sealevel has provided the students with full access to our engineering and marketing departments. From solving engineering problems to developing a website and promotional materials, the students maintain control over every aspect of their robotics system and team brand. Watching the students build their robot and plan their competition strategy has been a truly unique experience for everyone involved.

To give you a little background, FIRST‘s mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership. Check out  teams from around the nation on the FIRST program’s website.

Sealevel is excited to see Pickens County Team 2751 enter into competition this March. This year’s competition theme is Breakaway, a soccer-themed competition. Keep up with the latest news and accomplishments from Pickens County Team 2751 or follow their story here on the Sealevel blog.

I was asked (and honored) to be a mentor to the team. After one meeting, I realized they knew a heck of a lot more than I did about these robots, so I changed my title to “Mentor in Training”. Honestly, it’s a lot of fun watching them solve real problems and challenges. Maybe we can hire a few of these kids….
