Sealevel Selected as Finalist for Technology Development Award

September 11, 2013

The InnoVision Awards Program, dedicated to recognizing business, individuals, and educators in South Carolina that advance technology in the state, has announced the selection of Sealevel Systems, Inc. as a finalist for their 2013 Technology Development Award. The distinction is in recognition of a custom solid-state computer Sealevel designed for a world-leader in emergency communications for Public Safety First Responders. The system serves as the hardware platform for the next generation 911 dispatch system for local and state agencies across the U.S.
Custom COM Express Design
To help meet our customer’s goals for reliability, ease of use, and long-term availability, we chose the COM Express architecture as the basis for the new dispatch console design. Sealevel COM Express systems combine an off-the-shelf Computer on Module (COM) containing the functionality common to most systems (processor, memory, graphics, USB, Ethernet, SATA) with a Sealevel-designed custom carrier board that includes application specific I/O and interface connectors. This combination provides the benefits of a full custom design while reducing the time, costs, and risks of custom system design. Additionally, the system can be easily updated by upgrading the COM Express module to stay current with the latest technology, thereby facilitating a long product lifecycle. Sealevel COM Express systems are the perfect solution for OEMs in critical vertical markets such as military, oil and gas, communications, and process control.

Product development is a passion here at Sealevel, so being selected by InnoVision is great honor. Sealevel previously won the InnoVision Small Enterprise award in 2004 for designing one of the first computers to operate with no fans or other moving parts. In fact, that design was done for the very same customer! The winner of the Technology Development award will be announced at a ceremony and dinner on November 14th, so be sure to check back with us to see if we win.
