New Software Tools Enhance RISC Embedded Computing Applications

May 17, 2016

Sealevel has announced Modbus-SSD, a new suite of software tools designed to speed development time for embedded applications. Designed to run on Sealevel’s R9 family of rugged computing and HMI solutions, Modbus-SSD is compatible with the company’s wide range of Modbus connected distributed I/O products. Modbus-SSD includes helpful C# example programs and demonstration source code that designers can easily adapt to their specific requirements. Modbus-SSD and Sealevel R9 solutions are perfect for process control, building automation, and test and measurement applications where rugged hardware and dependable, easy to use software are required.

For HMI applications, Modbus-SSD runs on Sealevel’s SeaPAC R9 family of RISC flat panel computers. Available with a choice of screen sizes, SeaPAC R9 systems offer small size, wide operating temperature range, and flexible I/O connectivity. Local or remote I/O expansion is available using Sealevel SeaI/O modules. Choose from a variety of I/O configurations including optically isolated inputs, Reed and Form C relay outputs, TTL interfaces, A/D, and D/A. The SeaPAC R9-7R connects to SeaI/O modules via the RS-485 expansion ports for easy access from Modbus-SSD based applications.

For space-critical applications, Sealevel’s Relio R9 combines powerful RISC processing power with serial and digital I/O capabilities in a rugged, compact form-factor. Packed with a wealth of Modbus-SSD compatible I/O features, R9 systems are based on a 400MHz Atmel processor boasting a 32-bit ARM instruction set for maximum performance. The Relio R9 is the perfect platform for embedded applications requiring small size, wide operating temperature range, and flexible I/O connectivity.

Further enhancing the fastest application development, the Windows CE 6.0 BSP binary and low-level drivers for R9 system I/O are included. In addition to Modbus-SSD, R9 systems are equipped with the Sealevel Talos I/O Framework, which offers a high-level object-oriented .NET Compact Framework (CF) device interface. This interface provides an I/O point abstraction layer with built-in support for the specific needs of digital I/O such as debouncing and logic polarity. Embedded Linux support, including fully configurable components, is also available.

Modbus-SSD comes free with all R9 computing solutions and includes best in class support from Sealevel’s application support team. Quick start kits and free evaluations are available, and products ship from stock.
