Student Builds Robotics System for Oregon Zoo Elephants
Rohan Jhunjhunwala, a mechanical engineering leader on the Catlin Gabel School’s robotics team, was approached to build a robotics system for exercising and entertaining elephants at the Oregon Zoo.
The robotics will consist of three parts: an apple launcher, motion sensors and capacitive sensors built into a four-key piano. The system will be used to feed, exercise, and entertain the elephants.
With funding and materials secured, Jhunjhunwala is currently coding and building intensively over the summer and hopes to have things operational in prototype form in the fall. The final product will be completed in time for his school’s science fair in March.
