New Optically Isolated USB to RS-232/422/485 Adapters Include SeaLATCH™ Locking USB Connector
Sealevel announces two additions to the popular SeaLINK USB serial product line, the SeaLINK+I.DIN (Item# 2113) and the SeaLINK+2I.DIN (Item# 2213). Offering designers the choice of one or two serial ports, SeaLINK serial devices are the perfect way to connect peripherals such as barcode scanners, serial displays, and data acquisition modules to any USB port. Each DB9M serial port is configurable for RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 via dip switches accessible through the case, and optical isolation protects the host computer from damaging voltage surges and ground loops commonly found in industrial and OEM applications. For maximum reliability, each adapter includes Sealevel’s patent-pending SeaLATCH locking USB connector design that prevents accidental cable disconnection.
Product Features
- One or two RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 ports
Isolation protects host computer from damaging voltage spikes and surges
- Innovative SeaLATCH locking USB connector design prevents accidental cable disconnection
- Convenient DIN rail mounting

Getting Off the Bus to Expand I/O
Find out how to implement I/O expansion using any single board computer in an article authored by Sealevel and featured in this month's PC/104 & Small Form Factors magazine. The article, “Getting Off The Bus To Expand I/O”, details the evolution of the PC/104 bus including the recent trend by several SBC manufacturers to abandon the traditional PC/104 ISA bus in favor of higher speed bus standards.
With the choices continuing to evolve, system designers may have difficulty deciding which SBC and expansion architecture to choose. While PCI-104 and PCI Express offer fast data rates, relatively few compatible I/O boards are available today. Fortunately, selecting the best SBC for the job does not depend on hardware bus expansion options. Many designers are choosing I/O solutions using features common to most small form factor SBCs such as serial ports, Ethernet, and USB. To find out how, read the entire “Getting Off The Bus To Expand I/O” article on our website.
