Many
RS-485 Users Are Unaware That They Are Placing
Data At Risk
The RS-485 communications standard introduced by EIA in 1983 does not
stipulate a specific method for controlling the driver, and several alternatives
have evolved. Some methods have significant risk of data contention and
corruption.
To assist users in selecting the ideal method, Sealevel Systems
has published a white paper: Eliminate the Risk of RS-485 Data Corruption.
Learn which
method is most effective for minimizing the risk of communication errors.

Tech Lowdown
The Windows® XP Embedded (XPe) operating
system offers a configurable set of over 10,000 individual components. Developers
can customize
their image by including only the components required for their application.
Windows XP Embedded is based on Windows XP Professional and a bootable kernel
can scale to as low as 8MB in size.
When used with a Sealevel Relio industrial computer, an XPe image can be created
that will run from a 1 GB CompactFlash memory card instead of a hard drive.
Additionally, Relio computers are fanless which allow complete solid-state
operation resulting in the ultimate reliability.
Developers typically use the following process when configuring
XPe:
• Develop application using standard Windows XP Pro operating
system
•
Use Windows Embedded Studio tools to "componentize" the OS
• Deploy the target image onto CompactFlash memory
• In production, Sealevel can duplicate the CompactFlash or load the
image
via Ethernet network
XPe is ideal because it allows developers to use the familiar XP operating
system and toolsets while still providing complete configuration flexibility.
Substantial customization options allow virtually unlimited operating system
environments including traditional or headless operation. Essentially every
component of the target XPe image can be configured to perfectly match the
application requirements.

Relio industrial computers and XP Embedded can provide the highest reliability
for your application.
