Description

The 2107 provides a single port USB to RS-485 asynchronous serial port and versatile interface for common RS-485 applications. The adapter utilizes Sealevel’s expertise in military-grade designs by incorporating a ruggedized, over-molded enclosure. This improves the reliability and durability in automation, factory floor, industrial and mobile RS-485 applications.

The 2107 supports 2-wire RS-485 networks and includes a removable terminal block adapter (Item# TB34) that simplifies field wiring. Thumbscrews on the TB34 secure the terminal block adapter to the serial port and prevent accidental disconnection.

The USB serial adapter features programmable baud rate and data formats with 128-byte transmit and 384-byte receive buffers. The adapter is compatible with all standard PC baud rates and supports high-speed communication to 921.6K bps. The 2107 is powered by the USB port and status LEDs molded into the enclosure indicate serial data activity and connection to the host.

Sealevel SeaCOM USB software drivers and utilities make installation and operation easy using Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems. After installing the software, simply plug the 2107 into an available USB port and the serial port is recognized as a standard COM port by the host system enabling compatibility with legacy software.

The attached cable is approximately 44 inches long and fully shielded to protect the 2107 from RF and EMI interference that is common in mobile and industrial environments. The 2107 operates over an extended temperature range of -40°C to 75°C.

The 2107 has a DB-9M connector and includes a removable terminal block. If you need a DB-25M connector, order the 2102.

Sealevel Part No. 2107 USB to 1-port RS-485 DB9 Serial Interface
We purchased the Sealevel 2107, since it was one of the few USB to RS-485 serial interfaces that met our operating temperature specification. It has been very reliable, and we have had no problems with it. It has been tested over temperature extremes in our system, and has continued to operate well. The software is easy to load on the computer that interfaces to it. We have had no problems at all.

USB to 1-Port RS-485 DB9 Serial Interface Adapter for Associated Press Submerged camera application
We were asked to design and build a submerged camera system with moving platform
The Customer was the Associated Press and application was the Olympic Pool in London.
From the Customer we learned that four Companies had tried to put this together but failed.
Main reason of failure was the amount of cables needed to connect the top side control case
    with the Submerged unit.

We based our system on RS485 and even super imposed these signals on 24 V DC supply.
To move the submerged casing we used a Pan and Tilt, controlled via RS 485 and with a
24 Volt Power requirement ( ROS was the supplier)
By using the 2107 we were able to cut a lot of the wiring and managed to work with a single cable
just under 19 mm in size.

    RS-485 to USB comm. problems
We had comm. problems between a four channel temperature monitor and computer that we suspect was caused by a high frequency power supply. We replaced the RS-485 to USB interface adapter with a model 2107 SEALEVEL interface adapter and once the setup was completed we were able to read the temperature data that was unavailable before with the old RS-485 interface adapter

    Works perfectly!
I needed an RS-485 interface for a marine sonar installation. I tried a few cheaper units found on the internet, but all had issues of one sort or the other. A client recommended that I use an interface from SeaLevel and so I ordered the model 2107. I installed the software, plugged it in and it worked. Absolutely no issues and set up couldn’t have been easier.
