Question:
What 8080 instruction took the longest time to execute (clock cycles) and was often used in timing delay loops to basically "waste time"? What did this instruction do and why did it take so long?

Answer:
The XTHL instruction took the longest time to execute and was often used in timing delay loops. This instruction exchanged top of stack with HL registers. It had to read two memory bytes from external memory and swap them with two bytes in the internal HL register, thus requiring 18 clock cycles to complete.

R5000 with Easily Accessible Expansion

R5000 with Easily Accessible ExpansionSystem designers can easily customize the I/O features of the R5000 using the system’s PCI Express and PCI bus expansion slots. To access the expansion slots, use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove three screws from the side panel. Remove the side panel to reveal a PCI Express X4 slot and a PCI slot. The optional 2.5” solid-state disk (or hard drive) bay and an SO-DIMM slot can be accessed as well. In this example, the side panel has been removed to reveal a PCI Express digital I/O card (Item# 8004e) and a PCI 4-port synchronous serial card (Item# 5402). A metal bracket and thumbscrew hold expansion cards securely in place even in high-vibration environments.
