12 Days of Techmas: Day 6 is the Pixelstick

December 15, 2014

A picture is worth a thousand words, but the images you can create with Pixelstick will leave you speechless. On our 6th day of #Techmas, we are featuring a gadget that all photographers will love! The Pixelstick is lightweight, and consists of 200 full color RGB LEDs. The controller mounted to the back of the stick reads images from an SD card and displays them one vertical line at a time, with each LED matching a pixel in the image. Using a camera set for a long exposure, you can capture amazing photos, like we did with our Sealevel logo!

Why we love it:

  • It’s easy to use — simply walk with the PixelStick, or spin it for abstract designs.
  • You can import any pattern, graphic, or photo.
  • They offer tutorials on lightpainting, prepping images, and more.
  • The have content packs, such as food, art, and video game characters, available for download to get you started right away.

“The PixelStick is one of my favorite tech gadgets because it allows me to combine lightpainting with experimental photography,” says Wallace Krebs of the Sealevel marketing department. “I can take virtually any digital pattern, artwork or even a photo and literally paint it into another photograph. It’s a fairly niche product, so there are a lot of creative opportunities in uncharted territory.”
