Sealevel’s team of Compliance & Test Engineers completes extensive, continual evaluations and reviews to meet environmental, safety and security standards. Through cross-department collaboration and a “design for certification” approach, the team is able to guide products through regulatory procedures and official certification. Our on-site test equipment, including vibration tables and thermal walk-in chambers, allows for preliminary testing to take place at Sealevel.

About ATEX

ATEX (the ATEX Directive) is a set of EU regulations designed to ensure the safety of products used in hazardous locations. ATEX certification focuses on the technical evaluation and quality assessment of a product that will be used in potentially explosive atmospheres.

About IECEx

The IECEx System (International Electrotechnical Commission System for Certifications to Standards Relating to Equipment for Use in Explosive Atmospheres) is a voluntary program that outlines standards for electrical, electronic and related equipment. The IECEx Certified Equipment Scheme certifies and tests equipment used in hazardous locations against fires or explosions related to flammable gases or dust.

About HazLoc Classifications

Hazardous locations, or HazLOC, are primarily defined as areas that are at risk of fire or explosions due to gases, vapors, dust or fibers. These locations can include health care facilities, power generation plants oil rigs and sugar refineries. The Zone System, used commonly with ATEX,uses zones to define the nature and probability of the hazardous material and the group defines the specific type of material and the location. For IEC, the Class/Division System uses classes to define the nature of the material, divisions to indicate the probability, and groups to define the type of hazardous material.
