Process Temperature Maintenance

Case Study

Certain process control applications require exposing electronics to harsh environments such as extreme temperature, vibration, water, or chemicals. Using a Human Machine Interface (HMI) in extreme temperatures can be problematic since most HMIs are based on TFT LCDs that cannot be operated without damage below 0°C without a heating system. Sealevel worked with a customer that makes equipment and wiring for process heat maintenance on a requirement for a rugged, economical HMI that operated to -30°C. Sealevel’s engineering team overcame this challenge by designing an LCD-based HMI capable of operation below 0°C without heaters.

Case Study

Le-ax Water District is a drinking water facility located in southeastern Ohio. This rural water district supplies drinking water to 6,800 taps, 17,000 people, 500 miles of waterline, and 4 counties. Le-ax contacted Sealevel for a pilot project to monitor pressure-reducing valve stations. Approximately 20 stations are strategically located throughout the district to prevent damage from high pressure and avoid unnecessary stress to the infrastructure. They sought a solution to remotely monitor their existing facilities and detect spikes in pressure or water main failures. Technicians were often not alerted of an issue until a homeowner or business called — after the damage had been done.
